Making Life’s Moments Sweeter
The statement “Making Life’s Moments Sweeter” really captures the essence of our purpose and vision for McLain’s Bakery + Markets. Our family learned about the opportunity of acquiring McLain’s in late December of 2013, and that’s when the journey began. The McLain family had built a legacy over 60 years and felt like it would be a remarkable opportunity to continue that legacy. The purchase was completed in March of 2014 and prompted our pursuit of the re-envisioning of McLain’s. That included becoming a bakery, cakery, and coffee shop with fresh breakfast and lunch in neighborhoods around Kansas City that encouraged the local community to come and gather.
Making life’s moments sweeter is captured in three key areas.
First, and our highest priority, is our staff who are the faces and hearts of McLain’s. They are the heart of our business, and we are committed to extending our enjoyments and benefits to all that work with us. We strive to provide conversations regarding operations for our employees and a work environment with culture, compensation, and opportunities. Second, is our customers. We hope that encountering our staff, and our products, is a great experience. We try to do everything we can to have that experience be great, and we are continuously working on that. While this does not always happen, it is at the forefront of our hopes. Finally, we are interested in being a place for the community to gather. That was one of the first things recorded in our discussions regarding what we wanted McLain’s to be. It is important to us that McLain’s is top of mind for everything. From self-reflection to meeting family and friends to having larger gatherings. We want to be involved in the communities where we are located in.
Since taking ownership of McLain’s Bakery in Waldo, we have expanded with McLain’s Market locations in Overland Park, Shawnee, and two in Lawrence, Kansas. We have helped build our coffee brand, Sway Coffee Roasters, which serves all of our locations and is developing wholesale accounts. We are not sure what’s next, but we hope to be your favorite bakery, coffee shop, cakery & eatery near you for gathering with friends and family. We are committed to enhancing and expanding our efforts toward Making Life’s Moments Sweeter for the next 76 years (or more!).
